Location Visit

10/10/2017

Discussing the plans for the day: In this video the group discusses the plans of the day and what we aimed to do and achieve in the location visit. We spent the first half of the location visit collecting stills and filming for the group's television news programme. I took the role of taking the stills for the group. The second part of the location visit was spent visiting the BBC Midlands Today base. We had a tour of the base and I was able to experience the work environment of media work place. Throughout our tour we were able to see the BBC Midlands Today studio and were shown how the studio equipment works in order to bring out the results of a high quality programme. Having this visit to BBC Midlands Today provided me with the typical conventions of a fully functioning television news programme which I can use in my own show.

Original Stills:

This still would be efficient for my television news programme. This photograph is of St. Martin's Church which is famous and iconic landmark in Birmingham. When people see this, they will be able to identify the location which is Birmingham City.

This photograph is of the Birmingham Museum. This another iconic building of Birmingham and is well recognised. By having this featured, the audience will be able to identify the location. This also presents the pride within Birmingham as the museum draws in many visitors.

Grand Central is another huge landmark for the City due to the fact that it is fairly recent. It attracts many visitors every day and so showcasing such a successful landmark could possibly contribute to the success of the television news programme.

This shot beautifully showcases the variety of building structures the city has. These shots also play a role in making the city seem very appealing to the target audience. This also allowed the group to be creative in the stills they were capturing.

This is an image of the BBC Midlands Today studio. By visiting the studio we were able to observe what the normal environment of a professional news company is like. We also had the chance to witness how the cameras and lighting are used .

This is another creative shot of the Mail Box, another tourist trap in the city. It also one of the most nicest and tidy places in the city which contributed to making the city appealing to the target audience.

This is yet another shot to highlight the group's creativity when given a photography and filming task.

Filming

The majority of the group's filming was based on capturing the pedestrians of the city carrying out their normal day. We did this to make our news programme as factual and realistic as possible due to the news genre being based around these factors. We collected multiple long shots and time lapses of the pedestrians. We also got multiple shots over looking the city to again present the realism and also showcase the city to the target audience.

End of the day result:

The day was very successful. Our group collected many videos and stills of the city which made the city very appealing to the target audience. I enjoyed this day because I had to learn how to cope and work with a small group in order to produce a good final product. I took on the role of collecting stills for the project which I enjoyed a lot because photography is my strongest point. I also had to learn how to be independent and manage my time accordingly.
